Michigan United Methodists have a unique opportunity to help the global denomination move into a positive future. Bishop David Bard has called a special session for our Annual Conference on Saturday, March 7, 2020 in Albion, Michigan.
(See this link for more information if you missed this announcement and for a FAQ sheet.)
The sole purpose of this session of the Michigan Annual Conference will be to consider whether the Michigan Conference will send the legislation based on the “Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace Through Separation” to General Conference 2020 so that it might be considered by the delegates to the General Conference. In order for the General Conference delegates to consider the “Protocol” (which was finalized after the deadline for submitting legislation) it needs to be sent to General Conference by one or more Annual Conferences. According to the Book of Discipline it is the lay members “last seated” who are invited to attend this special session as members. In other words, those who were members at the 2019 Annual Conference.

We are at a unique place in the life of the United Methodist Church. Because this special session of Annual Conference is important to the church as a whole, and because Albion College was the only suitable location available on such short notice, Northern Waters District has arranged for a bus departing from Traverse City (District Office) at 8:00 am on March 7th. The cost is $25 per person. Due to the cancellation policy of the bus company, please contact the District Office by February 19th to guarantee a seat. Bring your own lunch for the trip to Albion. The charter bus (with restrooms) will stop on the return trip so that folks may buy dinner.
Looking forward to our March Bus Trip (yep – I’m the bus “captain” 😊)!
